Welcome to the star & dove blog. It has taken me long enough but now we are ready to roll and fill you good folk in with the what, where’s and why’s of everything happening at the Star & Dove.
Firstly for those with their heads buried in the sand, there happens to be a little football kick around starting in South Africa tomorrow. We will be showing all of the games in the bar and on our big projector screen in the kids room. Not quite on the scale of Queens square but hopefully a little more civil. Bar food will be available during all games so come and get your footie fix.
For those not so world cup inclined the “blue room” will be a designated no football zone for the entire month.
Food wise and things are starting to get exciting down at the fruit and veg market. Following hot on the heals of the spring favourites, asparagus and Jersey royals. This week I have been buying the first crops of English broad beans, peas and a few English raspberries alongside bunched new season carrots, little gem and baby spinach.
Not surprisingly all of these glorious pickings will be used throughout the menu this weekend.
Best end of lamb with crisp lamb breast, Savoy, glazed carrots and its own shepherd’s pie. Wild Cornish sea trout poached in butter, soused mussels, asparagus and Jersey royals and braised veal, veal sweetbreads, risotto and broad beans are just three dishes making an appearance over the weekend.
We have also changed the menu structure slightly. Gone are the separate a la carte, lunch and bar menus. Replaced by a simple lunch/ dinner menu with bar snacks (think scotch eggs, potted ham) bar food ( hamburger, fish & chips, ploughman’s) and proper food ( French style pea tart, rib eye steak) all together on one daily menu. This is for your ease of use so you can have three courses in the garden or ham, egg & chips in the restaurant. The choice is yours.
As with everything we do, we would love to hear your feedback so please get in touch.
Till next time,
Cheers,
Sam
